Long forgotten temple Ta Prom

Long forgotten temple Ta Prom

I thought this looked like something out of Apocalypse Now. Or maybe a live action version of The Jungle Book.

Ta Prohm at Angkor.

A word of advice to the intrepid Angkor explorer; skip the “sunset at Angkor Wat” experience that everyone recommends. It’s way overrated. You’ll be experiencing a quiet, serene sunrise with approximately 1000 other people from China and Germany. Not cool.

Instead, pick any other of the hundreds of Angkor temples for your early morning excursions. They’ll be truly deserted, and you can do your best Henri Mouhout impersonation. It’ll be a once in a lifetime experience.

jungle book is right, but the cartoon. this is waaaaaayyy too photoshopped. no depth, everything is exaggerated, cartoony colors.

Thank for the thoughts, kb. Point taken, but I intentionally manipulated the image to get that otherworldly feel which I was going after.

Post-processing photos is not a bad thing, IMO. 100 years before photoshop, the best in the world (i.e., Ansel Adams) could use a darkroom to manipulate a print in a very similar manner to Photoshop today. I personally used to manually develop and print my own negatives and slides and so I know firsthand how much manipulation was done by pros long before photoshop—hence I’ve never looked at post-processing as a negative thing. It’s just another artistic tool in the repertoire. Whether it creates good art is another question altogether…
