Day and night meet….fleeting, mysterious, undisturbed…..as dawn breaks at Angkor. Part of the breathtaking morning experience watching the sunrise at Angkor Wat, as the stars slipped away one by one as sun slowly unveiled the temple, as it had every morning for a thousand years

Dugout Canoe being paddled across the moat at Angkor.

A dugout canoe ride across Angkor Wat’s Moat!

This last trip to Angkor, I noticed this boat in the moat that surrounds the ancient temple. Some workers were using it to repair the causeway. I struck up a conversation with them, and was able to talk my way into getting a free boat ride in the moat! A once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was surreal, […]

Road To Nowhere –

Another vintage post from 2009 This is a pretty typical scene from Ratanakiri, Cambodia. There are a lot of hills, a lot of jungle, and plenty of red clay. I shot this Sunday afternoon. I saw some really cool cloud banks building up, and set out on my dirt bike to find a couple of […]

Roots on the Ancient Temple of Ta Prom

Of Roots and Sandstone…..

Sounds almost like a band name. Probably a lame, wannabe indie band. Anyway, Ta Prom never seems to get old (no pun intended). On this last trip, we got up before 5 to drink in the predawn light and experience the sunrise, as it individually transformed each stone it touched. There was a nest of […]

Independance Monument at Night

Vintage Post: Independence Monument – Phnom Penh, Cambodia:

I’m going to start adding some of my classic Flickr posts from a few years ago. Here’s one of my more popular posts from 2009…. “Last night when I was walking through the gardens near the Phnom Penh shoreline, I was struck with the way the lights played on the Independence Monument. I had brought […]

Old Bonsai-style tree at Angkor Wat

The Jungle-Enshrouded Temple

I thought this tree’s shape was very interesting, as I peered through it at Angkor Wat. I love old, spreading trees. I nearly had to fight off a couple dozen monkeys, but I guess the fact that I didn’t have food to offer them pushed them away into the trees.

Angel sculpture at Angkor Wat Cambodia

Sculpture

The carvings at Angkor Wat are incredibly intricate, especially considering they’re hundreds of years old. I’ve always been amazed at stone sculpture. How in the world does an artisan accomplish that with a chisels and hammer? It’s unbelievable. See some of my other photos from Angkor Wat.
