When we were visited Siem Reap last month, we decided to skip the massive crowds watching the sunset at Angkor Wat and Banteay Chmar. Instead we snuck up to the top of this massive pyramid.
It was closed, so I talked the guard into giving tacit permission for us to let us up. It was deserted, aside from a random Frenchman napping at the very top.
The view from the top was good, and we tried not to think of the problems that plagued this temple. Not something to meditate on when you’re a couple hundred feet up. Just hope it stays upright for another couple hours….
I have a photo of this same temple, at a different time, angle, and treatment here.

Wow!
aphuon: Huge temple-mountain in the heart of Angkor Thom. Largely collapsed and in ruined condition, the main temple area is undergoing extensive restoration. Most of the construction area is not open to the public but over the last several months, certain areas have begun to open to the public.
