An indigenous minority man casting his net.

Taken on the Se San river in Northeast Cambodia.

He stands on the bow of the dugout, keeping a sharp lookout for fish just under the surface of the water. Then he casts his net to try his luck.

So originally there was a hydroelectric dam slated to be built upstream, which would have displaced thousands of villagers, taken away their livelihood and destroyed their way of life. But as a supreme irony, a massive rubber company, which has previously stolen thousands of hectares of village land for their plantation, reportedly protested the dam as it would have put their plantation under water. From the frying pan into the fire, as it were.

These poor highlanders are being crushed from all sides, and their land divided and taken left and right.
